13/01/09 - Kazakhstan joins OSCE Troïka
Kazakhstan had officially entered the Troika of the OSCE Chair states.
The Troika is formed out of the pervious, current and next Chair states of the Organization. This year's Troika members are: Greece (current Chair), Finland (2008 Chair) and Kazakhstan (2010 Chair). The Troika is an important instrument for coordination of operations and midterm planning and is the body that ensures continuity of the Organization's activities.

Kazakhstan has also taken up Chairmanship in the OSCE Mediterranean Contact Group for Cooperation. In the framework of this cooperation, partner-states are helped to practice OSCE principles and obligations. In addition to the 56 OSCE member-states the OSCE Mediterranean Contact Group for Cooperation also includes Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Morocco and Tunisia. During the period of chairmanship, Kazakhstan will help rapprochement between Mediterranean states and the OSCE, strengthening dialogue and cooperation in three security dimensions:
• Human
• Economic & Environment
• Military/Political
Kazakhstan's experience in confidence building, maintaining interethnic and interreligious accord will play an important role in strengthening such dimensions.

The OSCE strategy against threats to security and stability in the 21st century was adopted at the Ministers Meeting in Maastricht in 2003. The strategy emphasizes growing concern over threats forming in the adjacent regions.

Kazakhstan plans to invite representatives of the OSCE Mediterranean Contact Group to attend the forthcoming 3rd Congress of World & Traditional Religions to be held in Astana in early July.
